Multigenerational Exposure to Nano‐TiO 2 Induces Ageing as a Stress Response Mitigated by Environmental Interactions

چکیده
Despite their ubiquity in personal care products, the health implications of titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanomaterials (NMs) are under strenuous investigation for potential as a carcinogen, whereas other evidence has shown links with premature ageing. Both hazards manifested after chronic exposure. To explore effects TiO2 NMs environment, multigenerational study using model test species Daphnia magna is conducted. Phenotypical characteristics associated ageing observed (loss or shortening tails and lipid accumulation) increased expression highly conserved key stress response genes involved inflammatory responses oxidative stress. These visible continuously exposed daphnids over four generations removed from maternal exposure even three later. However, to “aged” variants these at same concentrations significantly reduced effects, medium containing natural organic matter less severe than salt-only medium.

Response of Copepods to Elevated pCO2 and Environmental Copper as Co-Stressors – A Multigenerational Study
We examined the impacts of ocean acidification and copper as co-stressors on the reproduction and population level responses of the benthic copepod Tisbe battagliai across two generations. Naupliar production, growth, and cuticle elemental composition were determined for four pH values: 8.06 (control); 7.95; 7.82; 7.67, with copper addition to concentrations equivalent to those in benthic pore ...
متن کاملPost-term birth as a response to environmental stress
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Despite growing interest in the role of maternal psychosocial stress as a determinant of preterm birth, no existing work has examined the relation between maternal stress and post-term birth (≥42 weeks). We hypothesize that prolonging gestation past term may represent an adaptive strategy to a suboptimal environment. METHODOLOGY We examined the relationship between e...
متن کاملExposure to Antineoplastic Agents Induces Cytotoxicity in Nurse Lymphocytes: Role of Mitochondrial Damage and Oxidative Stress
Cytotoxicity and mitochondrial parameters were studied in isolated lymphocytes and their mitochondria obtained from occupationally exposed nurses through inhalation exposure to antineoplastic drugs and results were compared to those of unexposed nurses. The group of occupationally exposed nurses consisted of 50 individuals ranging in age from 30 to 35 years. The control group included 50 nurses...
متن کاملOxidative stress induced by environmental tobacco smoke in the workplace is mitigated by antioxidant supplementation.
Environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) is a pervasive contaminant in the workplace. Previous studies by this laboratory have shown that exposure to workplace ETS results in increased oxidative stress and damage, as measured by increased levels of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione reductase, and glutathione peroxidase. 8-Hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine, a marker of oxidativ...
